Erica Lee Carter, daughter of the late U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, wants to finish the job her mother started. Lee Carter says she will run to run to finish her mother’s term in the Special Election this November. The Special Election was called by Governor Greg Abbott to elect an individual to finish the late congresswoman’s term, which ends in January.
“So many community members and Democratic stalwarts have requested that I consider completing her term this year by running in the November 5th Special Election,” Lee Carter confirmed via an online post on her mother’s Twitter page.
“After careful consideration, the answer is YES.”
One of Houston’s most prominent political figures, Jackson Lee was born January 2, 1950 in Queens, New York, Lee served the citizens of Houston as part of the city council from 1989 to 1994. One year later, she was elected to the United States House of Representatives. Among her many political accolades, including establishing the Juneteenth Federal Holiday and reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act.
