A study crowns Vermont as the most zen place in the United States.
Research conducted by gaming website VegasGems examined each state’s average monthly search volume over the past 12 months for 162 terms related to meditation, mindfulness and de-stressing. Using Google Keyword Planner, they searched terms such as “meditation,” “how to unwind” and “best ways to destress.” These terms were weighted against the population and ranked by searches per 100,000 people in each state to create a fair ranking.
“Meditation is a worldwide technique used to relax and unwind,” said Josh Lingenfelter of Vegas Gems. “There are many forms that the U.S. has displayed a large interest in exploring, mainly guided and mindfulness meditation.”

Vermont ranked number one in their research with 207 monthly searches per 100,000 residents. The Green Mountain State explored terms such as meditation, guided meditation and mindful meditation.
“Guided meditation is the best way to introduce yourself to a zen lifestyle, which is led by an expert who teaches you the basic steps of meditation practice,” said Lingenfelter. “You can focus your attention on a soothing, calm voice and enjoy a relaxed mindset as an expert walks you through the meditation process.
New York and Massachusetts tied for second place on the list. “Meditation music” was a popular search term in both The Empire State and The Bay State. New Hampshire landed in third place where people there searched for ways on how to meditate the most.
“There are many different approaches to achieving a zen lifestyle, and it is clear that certain states are eager to learn more about unwinding and finding inner peace,” said Lingenfelter.
