Sadly, Angel Reese’s record-setting rookie season has come to an end. The Chicago Sky phenom announced via social media that she suffered a season-ending injury during a matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks.

The Sky later confirmed the bad news that the Bayou/Chi-Town Barbie secured her final rebound of the season following Friday night’s game due to a wrist injury.

Per Angel Reese:

What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lolThrough it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed. All I have ever wanted was to come into the W and make an impact. I can confidently say I have done that and will strive to keep doing so. I’m filled with emotions right now that I have a season ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next. Although this is God’s timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break. “God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers.”

“You’ll still see me being the biggest cheerleader on the sideline! And Unrivaled league, see you soon! ”

Angel Reese Had A Legendary Rookie Season

Reese can still finish her rookie season with the most single-season rebounds by a WNBA player in history despite missing the Sky’s final six games.

Only MVP favorite and Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson has a chance to catch her. Reese is currently sitting at an impressive 446 rebounds, while Wilson has 406 with six games remaining on the schedule.

Reese also owns the record for consecutive double-doubles (10) and the rookie record for total double-doubles (26). Had she not suffered her wrist injury, she could have passed Alyssa Thomas, who has 28 double-doubles.

The only accomplishment that Reese will likely fall short of is winning Rookie of The Year, which she would have won any other year with her impressive stats, but Caitlin Clark is out here hooping as well.

The race between the two “rivals” is extremely close, but most are giving the edge to Clark, who now has the clear advantage with Reese out for the remainder of the season.

Reese has nothing to hang her head about; she more than delivered and helped usher in a new wave of excitement for the WNBA.
