Lamar said in the announcement video “You know it’s only one opportunity to win the championship, no round 2’s,” which could be a stab a Drake who sent a message in his Instagram Story referencing a possible second round between the two.
In an official statement with Roc Nation, Apple, and the NFL, Lamar expressed his excitement in headling this year’s halftime show. “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date, and I’ll be there to remind the world why, said Lamar.“They got the right one.” Jay-Z added, “His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
This has been a stellar year for the Compton, California-born rapper. His beef with Drake was one of the biggest news stories of 2024 and the song “Not Like Us” is one of the biggest songs of the year. This will mark Lamar’s second time performing at the Super Bowl. He previously performed in the 2022 halftime show starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and 50 Cent.
Roc Nation and Emmy-winning producer Jesse Collins will serve as co-executive producers of the halftime show. The creative direction of Lamar’s performance will be provided by pgLang.
