It’s been months since Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s beef turned into a rap battle that turned hip-hop on its head.
Lines were drawn. Sides were chosen. And the rest, as they say, is history.
But fans have been waiting for J. Cole, a one-time member of Hip Hop’s Big 3, to say something. They’ve been waiting for him to say anything – about not only the battle – but also his decision to apologize to Kendrick Lamar and his fans in the first place.
After Kendrick’s Like That verse that pushed the Kendrick/Drake battle into high gear, J. Cole responded to Kendrick on his surprise album Might Delete Later with a song called 7 Minute Drill. But soon after dropping the record, he took it all back.
During his set at his annual Dreamville Festival, Cole announced that he regret making a diss record at all. He later deleted the song on his now humorously titled Might Delete Later surprise album that was aimed at Kendrick. He apologized, then told fans that the song was the lamest thing he’d ever done.

But now J. Cole has finally broken his silence. On Wednesday (October 9) J. Cole took to Instagram for a surprise drop of a record called Port Antonio. You can listen to the song below.
“I pulled the plug because I seen where that was bout to go/ They wanted blood, they wanted clicks to make they pockets grow/ They see this fire in my pen and think I’m dodgin’ smoke/ I wouldn’t lost a battle dog, I woulda lost a bro” – J. Cole on Port Antonio
The track opens with typical J. Cole production. His first verse is solid. He talks about his evolution as a rapper, going from Fayetteville to goat status, among other things.
But it’s the second verse that has people talking. This is where J. Cole brings up finally eludes to the battle between Drake and Kendrick.
He then ends the song by showing love to Drake, even calling him out by name.
“They say I’m picking sides, aye don’t you lie on me my n*gg*/ To start another war, aye Drake you’ll always be my n*gg*/ I ain’t ashamed to say you did a lot for me my n*gg*”.
