As a historic season wrapped up for the WNBA with the New York Liberty winning the franchise’s first-ever championship, the NBA tipped off the beginning of the 2024-25 season with a history-making moment of its own.
We all saw LeBron James and son Bronny James become the first father-son duo to play in an NBA preseason game together, and even with NBA insiders warning fans that they’d do it again in the season opener, it was still special to see.
LeBron: “You ready?”
Bronny: “Yup.”

On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Anthony Edwards-led Minnesota Timberwolves. Thanks to a New York Knicks trade, the Timberwolves had some new players in Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle.
But the Crypto Arena erupted when there were four minutes left in the second quarter. Bronny checked in, and LeBron was returning from a quick breather as the two became the first father-son duo to ever play together in the NBA.
LA hasn’t changed much about its roster during the offseason aside from a few two-way contracts, several waivers from the end of the bench, drafting Tennessee product Dalton Knecht, and, of course, Bronny with the 55th pick.
Still, familiarity reigned supreme in the season opener, coasting to a 110-103 win, including a 15-0 run, opening up to a 51-32 lead in the second quarter.
Anthony Davis even received MVP chants while at the free-throw line, dropping a game-high 36 points, trailed by LeBron’s 16 points in 35 minutes.
Bronny, however, didn’t score but logged one rebound in three minutes of play, including a missed three-pointer with a pass from his father.
Still, after the game, the duo spoke to Taylor Rooks about the monumental feat.
