With a social media handle like King Of Bingo, it’s clear Colman Domingo has hit the jackpot not in some ways, but in many ways. He’s a damn good actor, a class act, and a fixture on the men’s fashion scene making him the perfect choice for the 2025 Met Gala co-chair.
The Emmy Award-winning thespian is joined by fellow fashion frontmen Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and honorary chair LeBron James.
Vogue announced last week that the 2025 Met Gala theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The theme draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. This distinguished style of dress is rooted in the Atlantic diaspora and the reclamation of Black identity during a period of servitude. It is a form of expression and a way to separate oneself from the shackles of oppression. Dressing to the nines is implanted in our Blackness.
Black Dandyism has transcended generations to the present day where we see it as the ultimate expression of sartorial style. Colman is a style trendsetter, whose polished and sharp fashion sense makes him a modern poster child — amongst other flamboyant dressers like Andre 3000, the late Andre Leon Talley, and more — for Black Dandyism.
Domingo took to Instagram to thank Anna Wintour for selecting him as a co-chair for the illustrious annual event. “This truly is an exception honor. Thank you to Ms. Wintour for inviting me,” he captioned a photo of the theme.
There isn’t a best-dressed list without mention of the king. He continues to push the fashion boundaries with gender-bending pieces like the caped tuxedo jacket with large lapels paired and the wide-legged black satin pants he wore to the 2024 Met ball. He is an obvious choice as co-chair for next year’s upcoming fashion Super Bowl.
Colman Domingo’s leading man style has evolved over his career. From his early days on Broadway, in productions like Well and the musical Passing Strange (2008), to his more known projects like If Beale Street Could Talk, Euphoria, and The Color Purple, Domingo has established himself as a style maven. The 54-year-old believes in telling stories through fashion.
“The story has always been effortlessly elegant and luxurious and playful, all at the same time,” Domingo said in an interview with InStyle. “I like to show that that’s my personality, that I’m not taking everything so seriously, but I do have a sense of polish and style because that shows how I am as a person, that I show up exactly on time. I learned very early on to have a watch on—it’s a subtle indicator you’re concerned about time.”
Styled by Wayman + Micah, Domingo sets the bar for men’s fashion. The trio appeared on the Power Stylists cover of TheHollywoodReporter.
“True to Colman’s Sagittarius nature he really loves to play and have fun in every facet of his being so his style and sense of fashion fully thrives. We love putting him in tailored fits that highlight his stature, and we love using accessories to innovate and elevate his looks,” Wayman and Micah told Vogue. The dynamic duo may be the wardrobe wizards behind his look, but they admit it is his swag that takes every look to the next level. “To top if all off, Colman’s energy, confidence, and charisma always take every red carpet moment to the next level.”
