A Night of Inspiration returns to Carnegie Hall this year. Presented by Ray Chew and Vivian Scott Chew, the elaborate concert promises an evening of uplifting performances by both gospel and secular artists.
Among those expected to hit the stage is Regina Belle, Shirley Caesar, Erica Campbell featuring Krista Campbell, Doug E. Fresh, Rahsaan Patterson, Kierra Sheard-Kelly and many more. There will also be a tribute to the gospel dynasty, The Winans.
“We have a 64-piece orchestra, 150 of a mass choir and we’re doing inspirational music and bringing cultures and genres together,” Ray Chew told Parade magazine about the upcoming event.
A Night of Inspiration is set for December 14 at Carnegie Hall. Tickets start at $37. You can visit the Carnegie Hall website to grab yours.
Ray Chew spearheads A Night of Inspiration, but it’s not the only project up his sleeve. The acclaimed composer and producer also serves as the musical director for Dancing with the Stars and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. He also spoke to Parade magazine about his involvement with that annual event.
“This will be my ninth year as music director,” he said. “That’s a wonderful, wonderful task that I have. It’s actually a labor of love.”
Chew went on to explain the process of preparing music for a three-hour long live televised event.
“For the broadcast of the parade, there are over 200 musical cues for those three hours,” he said. “It’s three hours of wall-to-wall music. All that music has to be produced and recorded by me and my teams beforehand so that the artists, some of them who sing live on top of that, you’ll see the balloons and you’ll see the floats and you’ll see the music going in and out of commercial. You’ll have the opening theme. All of which has to be pre-recorded and triggered live as the parade proceeds.”
You can watch Chew’s production cues live in action during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thanksgiving Day on NBC at 9 a.m.
