Hip-hop legend Warren G stopped by “The Jennifer Hudson Show” yesterday (Nov. 4) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his classic album, Regulate… G Funk Era. He shared his thoughts on Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s rap beef, announced the anniversary tour and shared how he got his start in music. Read more and watch a clip from their conversation inside.
Warren G opened up about his legendary career, his family ties with Dr. Dre, and the pivotal role he played in shaping West Coast hip-hop on “The Jennifer Hudson Show.” Reflecting on his impact, Warren credited the “G-Funk” sound he pioneered with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg for carving out a unique space in the rap world, highlighting how their collaboration reshaped the genre in the ’90s.
In the interview with host Jennifer Hudson, he expressed that he was surprised to see how far music has carried him.
“I didn’t know I was going to get this far,” he adds. “It starts over again and again with the younger generations that come into the world. I’m seeing babies singing the song.”
Warren also discussed his bond with Snoop Dogg, who has been both a friend and collaborator throughout his career. He talks about the powerful influence of their brotherhood and how he encouraged Snoop to keep pursuing music, and thankfully he listened.
When Hudson asked about the highly publicized rap rivalry between Kendrick and Drake, Warren offered his perspective, admiring both artists for their skill but acknowledging the importance of friendly competition in pushing boundaries within hip-hop.
In addition to Warren’s appearance, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” welcomed Broadway star Ethan Slater. Slater excitedly shared his journey to landing his first magazine cover. He discussed his musical theater career, which includes a Tony nomination. He also discussed his role in the upcoming Wicked film, where he sets to star alongside pop superstar Ariana Grande.
