Campari Connects With ‘Drink Masters’ Judge Tiffanie Barriere For Negroni Week

The Negroni is a cocktail that fans all around the globe have enjoyed in both its original form and the dozens of riffs made by bartenders and enthusiasts alike. For Negroni Week 2024, Campari has partnered with Netflix’s Drink Masters guest judge Tiffanie Barriere to unveil her rendition along with other exciting happenings around the annual event.

I’m extremely late in getting up the Negroni Week content as it is nearing the end (September 16-22) but there is still some weekend left for folks to try out the classic for themselves.

I’ve written about the Negroni in this space previously and here is what I said then:

The ingredients I typically use for my version of the drink follow the original equal parts recipe, in this case, one ounce of each of the three components for the cocktail. The gin style is important, as it should be a London dry style. I keep bottles of Beefeater and Boodles on hand, and either would work. The London dry style puts an emphasis on the juniper flavor ahead of the other botanicals used to make gin.

But just as equally important as the gin is the vermouth, and I tend to go for Dolin Rouge because it isn’t syrupy sweet like other lower-quality brands. Lastly, the bitters component should never be compromised as it should always be Campari. The bright red liquid brings the cocktail visually to life while aiding the blend of flavors of gin and vermouth.

I will concede and say that I’ve moved beyond using strictly London dry gins and have used Nolet’s Silver, which makes a far sweeter Negroni than most but still enjoyable, and The Botanist, which makes a robust and almost savory style of cocktail. What I always tell folks is to use the gin you’re fond of and see what happens as everyone has different tastes.

Campari, the portion of the Negroni that gives it its bright red hue, and Imbibe, a one-stop shop for all things adult beverages, joined forces for the 12th annual Negroni Week. The collaborative effort naturally emphasizes the Negroni and the celebration taking place around the globe will support Slow Food, a movement that’s comprised of communities and activists across 160 countries.

While I’m all about the 1:1:1 version of the Negroni, Campari remains a necessity in the drink. Tiffanie Barriere, a cocktail historian, mixologist, and part of Campari’s Red Hands program, offers her unique twist by way of the Southern Orchard Negroni.

Barriere’s version pairs the pleasing flavors of an apple-infused gin, maple syrup, sweet vermouth, and Campari. I haven’t had this one yet but I’m itching to try this one very soon, especially as the fall months are fast approaching. The recipes for the Southern Orchard Negroni and the original can be found below.
