An invisible wind picks up when Natasha Rothwell steps on set for her second look at her HelloBeautiful cover shoot. The sleek black puffer coat by Jason Wu comes alive as Natasha confidently poses with it. Underneath the cold weather must-have is a chic black turtle neck CSCL, black trousers by Kit, and leather Larroude boots. Natasha looks most comfortable in this look and the camera is eating it up.
MUST READ: Natasha Rothwell: Main Character Energy
It’s a joy to witness Natasha soak up the spotlight for her HelloBeautiful cover because she has spent most of her life, trying to shrink herself. But that all changed with her Hulu series, How To Die Alone. Art imitates life for Natasha, whose character is confronted with facing her own insecurities and fears in order to…live out loud.
In our HelloBeautiful cover story, penned by Allison McGevna, our SVP of Content, the writer, showrunner, and actress revealed she once struggled with shoulder pain because she would “fold herself” to not “take up space.”
“There was a time in my life that I had really bad cramping in my [shoulders] because I would fold myself on subway. Because I didn’t want to take up space. I felt like I was an inconvenience. The consequence of not allowing yourself to take up space is physical. It’s actual physical pain.”
The season finale of How To Die Alone marks a transitional time for Natasha, from trying to minimize her presence to embracing her main character energy.
In this issue, we break down life lessons we learned from How To Die Alone, more iconic Black plus-size TV characters, and navigating the dating world as a plus-size Black woman.
