Native Brooklynite Tracy Morgan is a mainstay at New York Knicks courtside games, but last night’s game against the Miami Heat proved to be eventful for him for all the wrong reasons.
In the 116-95 Knicks victory, there was a delay in the third quarter when there were about six minutes left. It turns out it was because a sick Morgan—sitting near the announcers—vomited on the court. Images of the incident show that the mess was just inches from the sideline, so the stoppage lasted for more than 10 minutes.
More footage from fellow gamegoer and X user RealJoshBrownie shows that it appeared to be more than just an upset stomach. He was rolled away in a wheelchair and held a towel across his face to stop a supposed nosebleed.
“I just saw people rushing to him. And him taking the towel and going to his nose multiple times and then I saw red spots on the towel. It looked like he was bleeding from his nose,” he said in a follow-up video. “After that, he tried to stand up and just struggled to stand up, so they wheeled him out.”
As fans worried about Morgan, he took to Instagram this morning to post a smiling photo of himself lying in a hospital bed, explaining what happened and showing love to the Knicks staff.
“Thank you for all your concern! I’m doing ok now, and doctors say it was food poisoning,” Morgan wrote on Instagram. “Appreciate my MSG family for taking such good care of me and I need to shout out the crew that had to clean that up. Appreciate you!”
He even joked about the moment, adding, “More importantly, the Knicks are now 1-0 when I throw up on the court so maybe I’ll have to break it out again in the playoffs.”
A spokesperson for Madison Square Garden released a statement hoping to see him return to the world’s most famous arena once he’s back healthy.
“We hope Tracy feels better soon and look forward to seeing him back courtside,” it read.
Morgan’s health problems include diabetes, which he’s had since 1996, and he also received a kidney transplant in 2010. Four years later, he was in a truck accident that left him with broken ribs, a broken leg and in a coma for two weeks. Despite his recovery, he says he has no recollection of the crash and still gets headaches and some lapses in memory.
